The silence of a cobbled street at midnight. Medieval stone that has outlasted centuries. And only the light that was already there —a street lamp, the moon, one lit window— showing what daylight never does. Girona, Albarracín, Segovia, Pedraza, Peratallada, Beget and Pals, photographed at night: no flash, no added lighting, no replaced skies. The medieval series is editioned at three prints per image. Three. Once an edition closes, it is never reprinted. For private collectors and for interior design projects that look for presence, not decoration.

Welcome to the official gallery of Marco Zouvek. Based in Barcelona, he photographs Spain's historic town centres once the streets have emptied: existing light, long exposures, nothing else.

The architecture stops being a monument and becomes a stage: somewhere to stand still.

Every piece is printed as giclée on Hahnemühle Photo Rag cotton, signed and numbered by hand, in editions of three prints for the medieval series.

Every piece is printed as giclée on 100% Hahnemühle Photo Rag cotton, with archival pigment inks, hand-signed and numbered, and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. Editions are short and closed: three prints per image in the medieval villages series, five in Fragmentos de Ciudad y Paisaje. None is reprinted once it sells out.

Conservation-grade paper, free of optical brighteners, made to hold its tone for generations without shifting. A space for collectors who look for technical mastery, authenticity and a chiaroscuro that means something.

About the artist

I started photographing at night for a simple reason: by day these towns are full of people and signage; by night they look like themselves again.

I'm not trying to document a monument. What interests me is the moment a street stops being somewhere you walk through and becomes something that makes you stop. It usually happens long after midnight, and usually with a single street lamp doing the work.

I shoot with existing light and long exposures. What you see in the print was there. My job is to wait for it and to decide where the edge of the frame goes.

I work in Girona, Albarracín, Segovia, Pedraza, Peratallada, Beget and Pals, and more recently in Barcelona and the open landscape, in the series Fragmentos de Ciudad y Paisaje.

The paper matters more than you'd think

You can tell the moment you open the tube. That is why every print is made on Hahnemühle Photo Rag: 100% cotton, no optical brighteners, a matte surface, and blacks that hold in the shadows — which, in this work, is most of the picture.
