A solid stone arch, in near-total shadow, frames the cobbled passage leading to a weathered wooden door. The composition relies entirely on the contrast between that dark mass of stone and the polished reflection of the wet pavement, which returns, muted, the light of the wrought-iron lamps. It is one of the most chromatically restrained pieces in the series —almost monochrome in its band of shadow—, and for that very reason, one of the quietest.
