The oldest evidence proving the presence of the Jewish community in Girona is a preserved document dating from 888, which mentions for the first time the presence of 25 families. However, it was not until well into the 12th century that this community really became established.

Its social, political, religious, economic and cultural influence on Girona, especially between the 12th and 14th centuries, is indisputable. Today, the Jewish Quarter of Girona continues to be an economic driving force in terms of tourism, it is one of the most visited in the world and has become a symbol of the city's identity and an inseparable part of its brand.
