The Rodeno Hour: Albarracín
The Rodeno Hour: Albarracín

A rubble-stone wall on the left, a panel of reddish plaster on the right — the colour of rodeno, the sandstone that gives the whole Albarracín range its tone — and between them an alley climbing towards a brightness with no visible source. The wrought-iron lantern spills its warm light over the ivy scaling the façade, and the cobbles lighten towards the far end until they disappear. The scene is entirely without anecdote: this is a photograph about matter, about what stone and lime do with light once there is no sun left to explain them.
