The Narrow Hours: Albarracín

Here Albarracín narrows to the improbable: the wrought-iron balconies and wooden eaves almost touch above the walker's head, and a single lantern is enough to light the entire street. The cobblestones, glossy with damp, work as a second sky turned upside down underfoot. Closed doors and unlit signs are the last vestige of a daytime life that has withdrawn completely. The image belongs to that band of the small hours when an entire village seems to be holding its breath.
