Beneath the Wooden Balconies

Night fog wraps around a manor house with a wooden balcony gallery, whose ground floor has housed one of the valley's few restaurants for decades. Two wrought-iron lanterns mark the crossing of cobbled paths, and the moisture in the air multiplies every point of light on the wet ground. There is no added diffusion in the fog: it is the mountain's own geography, with its natural humidity, that dictates the atmosphere of this photograph.
