This staircase is the Pujada de la Catedral, built around 1530 in the wake of the expulsion of Girona's Sephardic Jews and the reconversion of the old Call Jueu quarter that followed. It begins at Carrer de la Força, passes a landing that gives access to the Pabordia, joins Carrer de Manuel Cúndaro — home to Casa Cúndaro, the former Casa Laporta, now a hotel — and ends at the Font de la Mare de Déu de la Pera. Two ashlar portals carved with inscriptions and dates (1556 and 1650) still mark this passage between the 16th and 17th centuries. At night, free of the visitors who climb it by day on their way to the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the passage recovers its silence and the vegetation spilling over its stone walls.
