Carrer de les Ballesteries is one of the oldest artisan streets in the Barri Vell: wedged between the medieval city wall and the old bed of the Onyar river, it takes its name from the ballesters, the crossbow- and arrow-makers who worked this stretch as early as the 14th century. For centuries it concentrated metalworking, leather and shoemaking trades, and it survived both the 1462 siege and the collapse of a stretch of the city wall in 1548. In this first view, recent rain leaves the traditional cobblestones glistening, and the amber warmth of the iron streetlamps reflects on the stone as the empty street curves gently into the distance.
