Veil of Fire: Correfocs, Barcelona

The smoke arrives before the fire does. At the Correfocs, before the first fuse has even fully caught, a dense golden cloud already fills the street, and it's inside that cloud that the real pyrotechnics — no effect, no post-production — draw their own vertical curtain of sparks. Seen from below, among the crowd, the scene stops reading as a neighbourhood festival and starts to feel almost geological: a suspended waterfall of light.

This piece is built around exactly that scale: the contrast between the near-architectural magnitude of the pyrotechnic display and the smallness of the human silhouettes holding it up from below, cameras raised, faces turned toward the fire. It's the same tension between the monumental and the human that runs through the rest of my work — only here, instead of centuries-old stone, the material is smoke and spark.
