Empty Terrace: Barcelona

An empty terrace, its tables gathered beneath a dark parasol, occupies the far end of a night alley rendered in black and white. The lit street lamps trace small pools of light in the gloom, and the paving returns a faint sheen that leads the eye toward the back of the scene.

I am drawn to the moment when the city has already closed and has not yet been claimed by the day: chairs, tables, a parasol that has lost its audience. A scene of absence that says more about a neighborhood than any crowd.
