The Sleeping Woman: Sierra de Guadarrama

The Sierra de Guadarrama traces, on Segovia's horizon, the silhouette popularly known as «the Dead Woman» — or, in its more poetic reading, «the sleeping woman»: a reclining figure formed by the peaks of La Pinareja, Peña del Oso and Pico de Pasapán. Under a stormy sky, a fleeting break of light sweeps across the snow, giving the range an almost sculptural relief, while cypresses and Mediterranean woodland remain in shadow in the foreground.
