Silhouette on the Stairs: Mataró

A man climbs a flight of steps in Mataró with his dog, both reduced to silhouette against the white light bathing the stairs. Black and white strips the scene to its essential forms: the diagonal of the handrail, the rhythm of the steps, the leash joining two figures.

This is street photography at its quietest. There is no drama, only an everyday gesture to which contrast lends an almost sculptural dignity. The leash, that fine thread between man and animal, is the true center of the image.
