The Copper Stairway

A stone and brick arch frames the breath of the Call: a staircase rising toward a rectangle of distant light, flanked by two walls that time has eroded into pure texture. No lighting was added to the scene—the coppery glow carving out the vault comes from a single lantern, hidden around the bend, captured by the lens in a long nighttime exposure. It is an image about the threshold: between the shadow of cold stone and the warm promise of what lies beyond, in the heart of Girona’s ancient Jewish quarter.
