The steps rise in a regular rhythm that the composition follows with almost architectural discipline, until they open onto an arched threshold where all the warm light in the image concentrates. It is a visual structure of ascent and reward that recurs, with variations, in several pieces of the Girona series —here, however, the threshold remains closed, a door that invites without opening, adding a note of unresolved mystery—.
