The Restless Sky: Cathedral of Albarracín
The Restless Sky: Cathedral of Albarracín

The tower of the Cathedral of El Salvador rises above the rooftops with its spire of blue glazed tile, while the sky streaks with long clouds driven by the mountain wind. Below, the timber-framed houses stack in impossible terraces, and the arcaded retaining wall returns a golden, regular light — almost liturgical. A solitary cedar introduces the only living line into a landscape made entirely of stone. The image portrays Albarracín in its essential condition: a village that does not spread, but climbs.
